Questions & Answers about Bespoke Tailoring

What does a bespoke piece cost?

There is no fixed price list, because every piece is one of a kind. The price depends on how elaborate the cut is, which fabric we use, how much handwork and how many fittings are involved, and the details you would like. A simple garment is understandably more affordable than a multi-part costume with hand embroidery. Once I know your idea, I am happy to give you a transparent, fair estimate.

How does a bespoke order work?

You write to me by email or through Etsy and tell me what you have in mind, whether that is with a sketch, a reference photo or just a vague idea in your head. Together we talk through cut, fabric and scope, and then your piece takes shape in my atelier in several stages, with fittings in between. You will find the whole journey explained step by step at the top of this page.

How does a fitting work?

After your enquiry we arrange an appointment. Fittings take place in Cologne, in stages, so fit and details are right. If you live further away, we can start from measurements or a test piece; shipping may be possible depending on the project.

What can I customise?

Almost everything. Whether your piece should be classic and elegant, modern and simple, or bold and creative is up to you. I am happy to shape the cut, fabric and details like buttons, collar shapes or embroidery to your wishes. In my atelier I make everything to your ideas and your measurements. If you only have a rough idea so far, that is perfectly fine. I develop the rest with you, step by step.

How long does an order take?

This varies from piece to piece. A simpler garment can be ready in a few weeks, while an elaborate costume or a multi-part ensemble takes longer. Once we have talked through your idea, I will give you a realistic timeline and keep you posted along the way.

How do I care for my piece?

It depends on the fabric. Many wool and silk pieces are happiest with hand washing or a gentle cycle, while cotton and linen tend to be more easy-going. So your favourite piece stays beautiful for a long time, I include specific care notes with every finished garment.

Do I need to know my measurements?

No. To get started, reference photos, a well-fitting favourite garment or rough measurements are plenty. We will work out everything else together, and for bespoke pieces we always arrange a joint appointment to take your measurements.
